GOLD SOUND IS GREEN
For over 35 years, Gold Sound has been environmentally conscious.
1] People often give us old stereo equipment, working or not. Whenever possible, we fix the equipment or use the parts to fix other equipment. If they can't be fixed, we separate & recycle the metal parts.
2] Most things sold at big box stores have very short warranties with little or no service available. After a year or two they break & must be replaced. Often local service is not available & it costs more to ship the big screen TV, etc., than it is worth, so it ends up in a landfill. Most of our products have local service & a 3 year or longer parts & labor warranty. Many have 5 or 10 year warranties. The brands we sell can last 30, 40 or 50 years. Buying the right equipment once saves you money & helps the environment.
3] Each year we recycle thousands of pounds of paper, cardboard & metal. We sort & recycle the metal by type, including aluminum, copper, brass, lead, iron & steel. 4] In 1980, Ron Gold studied passive solar design at the University of Colorado's Graduate Architecture School. Gold Sound's store follows passive design principles. Most of its glass faces south with no glass on the north or west sides. For many months, all of the building's heat comes from this south facing glass. The store uses less energy than many smaller houses.
5] In July 2009, Gold Sound added additional roof insulation, plus a new reflective white roof, both installed by Western Roofing of Golden, Colorado.
6] In June 2010, Gold Sound installed solar screens over the south windows, blocking 90% of the summer solar heat gain.
7] In July 2010, Gold Sound installed a more energy efficient air conditioner. Steps 5, 6 & 7 increased comfort & further reduced the store's energy consumption.
