PRO-JECT
TURNTABLE SALE! RM1.3, Cool looks, great sound, red & black, $498 ALL the PRO-JECT models we carry ARE MADE IN EUROPE & INCLUDE A TONEARM & DIAMOND NEEDLE CARTRIDGE.
The $299 Pro-Ject Essential is our most affordable European-made turntable. It includes an Ortofon OM3 cartridge [made in Denmark], a low-resonance MDF wood platter, a wood plinth & comes in matte red, black or white, is belt drive & plays 33 & 45rpm.
The $399 Essential USB includes a built-in phono preamp & an analog to digital converter with a USB output. The $100 extra over the price of the standard Essential model is half the cost of Project's separate USB phono pream & about $50 less than the cost of Project's phono preamp without USB. The Essential USB model plugs into the line input of a receiver that does not include a phono preamp, any mini or bookshelf system with a line input, as well as computer speakers. Most AV receivers of the past 15 years, as well as some Sony & Denon stereo receivers, do not include a phono preamp. The USB output lets you easily make a record into a CD, hard drive or MP3 file by using your computer's USB input. The Carbon USB, like the Essential USB, also includes both a phono preamp & an analog to digital converter with a USB output. The RM1.3 for $499 is the next model above the Carbon. The RM1.3 features a $100 Sumiko Oyster cartridge, 1.25" thick resonance-optimized wood platter, three-point wood plinth, plus an isolated motor assembly, optimized for low noise & speed stability. Three nylon cone feet reduce noise & vibration. The RCA cables can detach, permitting easy upgrades. Many $1000+ turntables don't have detachable cables. It looks like a modern sculpture & comes in your choice of a high gloss red, black or white finish.
TURNTABLE REVIEWS
DEBUT CARBON, $399; $499 with built-in preamp & USB output, "The most significant upgrade to Pro-Ject's latest Debut is found in its name, which refers to the lighter, more rigid, single-piece 8.6" carbon-fiber arm tube that replaces the Debut III's aluminum tube. It doesn't excel in any one area but gets the basics so right that it's hard to criticize what's lacking." ABSOLUTE SOUND 11/12
XPRESSION III, $699, "Features an acrylic platter, machined cone-feet, a carbon-fiber arm & other refinements rare at this price. Wide, deep sound-stage, clarity & smoothness." The latter is remarkable: easy & relaxed, rhythmically incisive & dynamically explosive, warm & rich, yet detailed & transparent, making it one of the most musically satisfying." ABSOLUTE SOUND 11/12
